The Gallager carbine saw extensive use during the Civil War. The weapon offered here has the usual walnut butt stock with iron butt plate and patchbox. Engraved on patchbox is “UCV / Lake Charles” with the number “41”.  Wood is in very good condition with beautiful color but no cartouches.

22 ¼” round barrel has flip up rear sight and heavy blade front sight. Surface is smooth but has been stained or painted with a brown coating which is wearing off in spots. Lever action operates well as does hammer / trigger action. Screw heads are good. Bore and rifling are good with only a few spots of light surface rust.  Lock is lightly marked “RICHARDSON & OVERMAN / PHILADA.” with serial number 10000 behind hammer. Rear edge of lock is marked “GALLAGER’S PATENT / JULY 17th, 1860.” Sling bar was cut off.
