MINT JAPANESE TYPE 44 CARBINE

$2,400.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: G3687

Exceptional example of a rare World War II era Type 44 carbine made in 1940!  Principal markings include: Chrysanthemum (Imperial Japanese Army property mark); “04526” (serial number); cannonball stack logo (manufacturer); characters Shiki & 44 (model: Type 44); Iroha Kana character for 1 (production series 1).

The condition is exceptional with 99% of the blue and straw remaining; really Like New and Unissued!  The bore is perfect and perhaps only test rounds were fired through it. The rifle is fully functioning and all the serial numbers match (collectors please note that Type 44 carbines have some sub-components with additional bench assembly numbers).

The Type 44 carbine was adopted in 1912; this example, made by the Kasuga Factory of Kokura Arsenal, is one of the last ones received by the Japanese Army in 1940. Though production ceased in 1941 with introduction of the Type 99 rifle, Type 44 carbines remained in service throughout World War II.  Kokura made only 9,000 production series 1 carbines; based on the production series and serial number, this Type 44 was made in 1940.

World War II vintage Type 44 carbines in this condition rarely come on the market.  Excellent opportunity to own a collector grade Japanese World War II rifle made before Pearl Harbor – and before the manufacturing quality declined!  [SK]
