This Sharps New Model 1863 Carbine, with all matching serial numbers C.5675, was manufactured by the Sharps Manufacturing Company in Hartford, Connecticut. This breechloader, straight breech model is .52 caliber. The lock has sharps pellet priming system integral with lockplate. The 22” Barrel is marked “Sharps Rifle/ Manufactg. Co./ Hartford Conn” forward of sight and “New Model 1863” behind sight. Excellent condition bore! Mechanically perfect! A pair of inspector’s cartouches is first visible behind the sling bar. Walnut stock is in very good condition. Barrel retains approximately 75% blue with balance a dark peppering of age discoloration. Lock plate and breech area with traces of case colors. No patchbox. Overall, a very fine example that is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. [ss]
