$4,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 748-16

This US Model 1855 Percussion Pistol Carbine was manufactured by Springfield Armory circa 1855-57. The total quantity manufactured was 4,021. It is a .58 caliber rifled base with a 12” barrel with faceted breech. Two leaf rear sight graduated to 400 yards. It’s complete with an original detachable stock, brass attaching yoke in numbered “8” and brass mountings—trigger guard, barrel band, nose cap, and butt plate. Lock is marked “U.S. SPRINGFIELD” forward of hammer and is dated 1855 behind the hammer. Lockplate is made with Maynard tape primer system. Ramrod is attached to underside of barrel with swivel device. Barrel tang is dated “1855”. Small V/P Eagle is visible in barrel breech. All iron is semi-bright with some minor scattered light pitting. All brass has nice pleasing patina. Walnut stock shows normal signs of use. There is a small single cartouche on side opposite of lock. A sling swivel is on shoulder stock and attached to the barrel band. A novel design, the Model 1855 Pistol Carbine was intended as a pistol on horseback and as a carbine on foot. This is a very popular collector firearm.
