This gun powder tin is painted yellow-orange and remains in very good condition. Measures 6” tall and 4” wide. Features a round paper label pasted to the front with the Hercules graphic and text. There is one small chip on paper label just above Hercules’ club. Screw-on lid on top. No dents.
In 1911, the U.S. Circuit Court in Delaware found that Du Pont had been operating an unlawful monopoly, and ordered a breakup of its explosives and gunpowder manufacturing business. The breakup resulted in the creation of two new companies in 1912, Atlas Powder Company and Hercules Powder Company. Atlas received the explosives manufacturing portion of Du Pont’s business, while Hercules got the gunpowder business.
A good, colorful tin. [jet][ph:L]
