INDIAN WARS U.S. MODEL 1870 CAVALRY CARBINE SLING SWIVEL

$30.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2024-1246

This is an original Indian War-era sling snap and swivel for the U.S. Army Model 1870 Cavalry Carbine Shoulder Sling.

This is the snap swivel assembly which was unique to the Model 1870 "E" Pouch, and was continued in use for the complicated Model 1872 Cavalry Brace System with its integral carbine sling strap.  These snap swivels were modified from the existing stocks of surplus swivels which were used on the 2.5" wide Model 1841 and Model 1855 Carbine Slings.  The swivel yoke and roller were reduced in width to match the narrower 1 5/8" wide sling. It is worth noting that the Model 1870 Snap Swivel is wider than the Model 1885 Carbine Sling Snap Swivel, which measures only 1 3/8" wide inside the yoke.

Excellent condition; clean and unmarked.  [jet][ph:L]
