Blade is semi-bright with light scattered mottling. Blade edges are good. Ricasso is stamped on one side with “US 1863” and inspector’s initials of “F.S.S.” Opposite side has “C. ROBY W CHELMSFORD MS” in a circle. Stamping of the letters “MS” is thin. Leather washer at base of ricasso is gone. Cast brass grip is in good condition with a light patina and light surface dirt from age and storage. There are also some light scattered areas of discoloration. Knuckle bow has inspector’s initials to match those on the ricasso. Black leather scabbard is complete but broken just above the drag. Both the throat and the drag have a matching medium patina. Throat has some small dings. The drag has inspector’s initials to match the ricasso and knuckle bow.
