Maker mark: obverse ricasso, “U.S. / D.R./ 1864”; reverse “Made by/ Ames Mfg. Co./ Chicopee/ Mass.” Bright 28” blade, measuring .75” at the hilt. Tight hilt assembly. Ribbed cast brass grip, exhibiting a light coppery patina. Strong black leather scabbard, exhibits light cracking. Brass work - throat & frog hook, & drag - exhibit medium coppery patina. Else VG. Solid collectible.
