[See Thillman, Civil War Cavalry & Artillery Sabers, pp. 414-415]. From the John Thillman Collections. By Tiffany, with star “T[iffany] C[ompany]” marking on obverse ricasso. Spear tipped blade measures 36” in length, 1.375” in width at the ricasso, with flat back extending 25” toward the tip. The bright, ding-free blade exhibits light condensation spotting & slight pitting near tip. Washer. Hilt assembly is tight & symmetrical. Iron work with back strap ears display consistent medium-dark tarnish. Original leather exhibits light wears; brass wrap uses central strand & two flanking outer strands. The ding-free scabbard exhibits lightly mottled, plum colored patina, and is missing its “throat”. Else VG. British Pattern 1821 Civil War cavalry sabers are scarce. An excellent collectible.
