Maker-mark: “Ames Mfg. Co./ Chicopee/ Mass”; inspectors mark: “U.S./ G.W.S./ 1864”. Maker-mark slightly worn, but legible. Bright blade measures 35” in length; exhibits light scratches & one minor ding, else VG plus. Full leather washer. Brass hilt assembly tight nearly symmetrical w/outer branch very slightly bent. Exhibits light coppery patina, with light scratching. Leather grip is original and tight, exhibits slight cracking & one light, 1” rubbed spot at pommel edge. Sub-inspector initials “J.H.” engraved on pommel cap.
Scabbard displays pleasing gun-metal gray patina, with two or three minor dings. Else VG plus, and highly attractive. Solid collectible, fine display piece.
