This sword replaced an 1849 pattern, was used by officials in management positions, and is in very good condition, with just the scabbard showing as brown-speckled steel gray. The sword is unmarked, likely a Solingen product and has a straight, spadroon style blade with central fuller, flat back, and medium length ricasso. The blade is in the bright, with good edge and point. The brass hilt has an upward-folding double clamshell guard, and prominent straight quillons angled slightly forward and swelling toward the tip. The wire wrapped grip, perhaps silvered originally, now shows aged brass tones, with ribbed and channeled ferrule at top. The globe shaped pommel is joined by simple knucklebow and topped by a tall, flaring capstan button. The scabbard body is steel, with no dents, now showing mostly brown spotted gray, with rectangular brass mounts: long throat with staple, middle mount with carrying ring and drag. The upper mounts have simple, incised line decoration. The drag shows some light dings. The brass scabbard mounts and hilt have a matching, medium, aged patina. [sr] [ph:L]
