The tile of this volume is “INSTRUCTION FOR FIELD ARTILLERY: PREPARED BY A BOARD OF OFFICERS.” The manual was written in 1859 by then Brevet Major William H. French, Captain William F. Barry and Brevet Major Henry J. Hunt and published by J. B. Lippincott & Co of Philadelphia in 1862.
Volume meas. approx. 5.00 x 7.75 inches and is bound in a pebbled brown cloth with an eagle perched on a shield and crossed cannons embossed front and back. Title in gold on the spine. Covers show very light wear and the title has faded some.
Interior is clean and runs 348 pages with 88 plates showing movements and organization of field artillery units as well as bugle calls and various charts.
Back page is singed in period ink “J. J. PIERCE 1862.” [ad] [ph:L]
