Size: 32 inch blade
This example is in excellent condition. Scabbard retains most of the original blue finish. Mounts and drag are high grade and cast on both obverse and reverse. Top mount is a double ring with hands as the ring mounts and well as the middle mount. Drag has high grade casting as well. All scabbard fittings have trace amounts of gilt remaining. Hilt is similar to 1860 staff sword but has a single cast Eagle on the guard. Counter guard has original ball and is stamped with the liege proof of E Lyon of France - EL under 3 stars. Remainder of guard is also excellent. The grip is embossed silver overlaid with twisted wire. The blade is minty as well retaining original frost and the original wool washer. Obverse blade has the inspection stamps of an S in a shield and a B with a crown above in an oval. Obverse blade etch is a stand of arms / foliate / sand of arms with flags / US Eagle / E. Pluribus Unum above / foliate. Reverse is etched with a fan / stand of arms / US / stand of arms with flags / foliate.
Spine has foliate etch with Klingenthal dry needle engraved in design. Overall this is an excellent example of this model. Also, the top ring is worn which demonstrates swords of this type were actually carried in the field. [ph:L]
