This attractive, non-regulation Foot officer’s sword has slightly curved blade. It measures 37.5” overall with a 31.5” blade. It is single-edged with a false edge on the top extending back about ten inches from the point. The flat blade features a rounded “quill back” spine which runs to the beginning of the false edge. The blade is decorated on both sides with floral and military etchings including “US” and eagle. A knight’s head is stamped on the ricasso. The top “quill” is decorated with a floral pattern as is typical on the imported blades.
The blade is pewter gray with scattered dark spotting. There are no nicks on the edge.
The grip has a sharkskin cover in good condition. Cover is wrapped with several twists of wire. The brass guard does not have the usual cut-out floral design. There is a knuckle bow, one branch, and a quillion. All decorated with floral details. Brass pommel also has cast floral designs. All brass has a pleasing mellow patina.
There is no scabbard.
A very nice example of a Foot Officer’s sword. [jet] [ph:L]
