This classic French Napoleonic trooper's heavy cavalry saber was manufactured about a year before the Battle of Waterloo. Its 39-inch unaltered hatchet point blade is in near mint condition with all the original factory burnish. It is dated July 1814. The heavy dent free scabbard is the true unaltered and only correct pattern for the Empire with the "lyre" drag or "dart". Be aware that the majority of the swords of this pattern offered today and even seen in museums and private collections have post-1815 altered spear-pointed blades and the lighter post-Waterloo/Empire scabbards!! The leather grips are perfect and have 100% of the original twisted wire and are also unaltered. The sword was formerly in late Professor I.K. Hay's collection. If you want the best, if you want one "factory" this is your opportunity. So very rare in the original state and impossible to improve on!! [pe] [ph:L]
