October 1, 1773. An emission of £150,000 in bills of credit to revive the loan office system. Printed by Hall and Sellers in Philadelphia in red and black ink with the Penn family crest on the front and a farm scene on the back.
The front is framed with columns on the left and right. The border on top is printed in both red and black ink. On the 10s through 50s notes the central text is partly in red so that it forms the roman numeral denomination of the note (X on 10s, XV on 15s, l for £1 on 20s and L on the 50s note). In this case there is the red “I” running through the text. The paper contains small mica flakes.
The note is numbered in ink, “23.564” with three signers: Benjamin Marshall, James Pemberton, and Thomas Leech.
This note remains in excellent condition with no pin holes or folds. [jet] [ph:L]
