The blade is in good condition. The surface is semi-bright with light scattered mottling. Blade edge has numerous small nicks. One side of the ricasso is marked with the inspector’s mark, initials and year of manufacture which reads “US 1865 AGM” in three lines. The opposite side of the ricasso is marked “ROBY CHELMSFORD MASS.” in three lines as well. The original leather washer is present under the counterguard and is complete.
The hilt has a nice leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. The twisted wire wrap is 100% intact and the leather shows little wear. The brass pommel cap, knuckle bow and counterguard have a nice patina and nothing is loose.
Metal scabbard is complete with throat and both mounts and rings. The surface of the scabbard has a nice dark patina and is free of dents. [ad] [ph:L]
