The drawn saber meas. approx. 41.50 inches from point to pommel. The blade meas. approx. 36.00 inches with a central fuller that is 25.75 inches long. The surface of the blade is very clean and very bright. There is no mottling visible but the edge has several very small nicks. The obverse ricasso is stamped with “US” over “W.D.” with the first letter being a bit worn. The reverse ricasso carries a crisp makers mark of “AMES MFG. CO.” over “CABOTVILLE” over “1849.” The original leather washer is present under the counterguard and is complete.

The hilt has a leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. The leather shows some light surface wear but the twisted wire wrap is 100% intact. The brass pommel cap, knuckle bow and counterguard have a nice light patina and nothing is loose. Top of pommel is stamped with inspector’s initials “J.W.R.” and “W.D.”

Metal scabbard is complete with throat and both mounts and rings. The surface of the scabbard is semi-bright with no dents and moderate scattered mottling.

Very nice example.  [ad] [ph:L]
