Cast brass cross guard and pommel; plated. Each end of the cross guard features a rounded eagle head with coiled snake clutched in its beak. The Athenian helmet seal is in the center upon an oval medallion. At some time after 1922, this seal was adopted into the Academy's coat of arms, instead of the letters "MA". Grip is white metal impressed to resemble wire wrap.
Blade is double edged and remains polished bright. Etching remains crisp with “USMA” the maker’s name and logos, “Hilborn – Hamburger Inc. New York / Made in Solingen, Germany” on one side and a blank plate where a cadet’s name could be etched on the other side.
Chromed scabbard features a brass mount and drag. No dings or dents. Bright finish overall. [jet]
