This is an original Civil War, model 1860 cavalry saber. Curved blade is approximately 35” long with 26” fuller and 18” small fuller. This is the lighter saber with rounded spine. Blade is bright and good, but has a couple of very small nicks and has been sharpened or over-buffed. Maker’s marks have been buffed away as has much of the date…but appears to be “1864”. Leather washer remains. Brass guard and knucklebow are complete and in good condition. Pommel had inspector’s initials. All brass has a mellow patina. Grips, wrap, and wire are all complete and in good condition. All components remain tight.
Steel scabbard is original to the sword and complete with rings. No dents at all. Very dark patina (nearly black). Drag is not worn, but shows some deeper pitting.
This is an honest M1860 cavalry saber that has an overcleaned blade, but is complete with a matching scabbard, and is priced right. A perfect starter for a beginning collector or will look great on any wall. [jet]
