This non-regulation Foot officer’s sword is one of many produced by various manufacturers during the Civil War. The blade of the Foot Officer sword is so slightly curved that it looks straight at first glance. It is single-edged with a false edge extending back about nine inches from the point. There is a wide deep fuller which runs from the ricasso to the beginning of the false edge. The blade is undecorated and unmarked. The spine of the blade is also unmarked. The blade is gray, with several nicks, and surface dirt. The point worn and shows deeper pitting. The grips have a wooden handle with a sharkskin cover in good, tight condition. Cover is wrapped with double-twist brass wire. Wire is loose in places. The brass guard has a cut-out floral design and quillion. Knucklebow attaches to a pommel with cast floral designs. No scabbard. [jet]
