Maker mark: “Ames Mfg. C_ / Chicopee/Mass.”; inspector mark: “U.S. / J.H. / 1864”. Bright and brilliant, ding-free blade measuring 32” in length, 1.25” at base. Washer present. Brass hilt, solid and tight, with bright patina, light scratching & minor dings. Quillon has “12” numerical stamping. Original black leather grip in fine condition, with tight wire wrap. Scabbard exhibits smooth light gray patina with two or three minor dents near drag. Carrying mounts & throat in fine shape. Overall, near fine & highly attractive. Superb collectible.
