Blade Etchings: American eagle in center with panoply of arms below and scroll design above. “UNION WORKS” at ricasso. Obverse side with “US” in center. Flags crossed with drum below, crossed flags above with shield instead of drum.
Grip: Sharkskin covered with original brass multi-wire wrap.
Scabbard: None.
Condition, on a scale of 1 – 10: Grip – 8; Blade – 8
We do not know the maker of this sword and have never encountered a blade marked “UNION WORKS”. Blade is also marked “IRON PROOF” on spine near ricasso. Brass hilt with superb patina and additional fine engraving on quillon.
