C.1850 Militia Officer’s Sword by Ames Mfg. Co. Chicopee, Mass. Double-edged straight blade is etch decorated with scroll & leaf designs and a wing spread American Eagle. Obrese side the same with eagle replaced with crossed flags. Ricasso with Ames markings all very fine condition. Straight brass cross guard with ecanthus leaves. Center of guard with a square with leaf design. Excellent mother of pearl panel grips secured with original brass twisted wire wrap. Knightshead pommel with double strand chain link guard attached. Overall length of sword is 39”. Brass scattered with geometric punched designs. Hilt retains nearly all its original gilt finish. Scabbard with some area of gilt lost. Scabbard also with a few minor dents. Overall a very nice example. [ss]
