Maker mark: “Ames Mfg. Co./Cabotville/1849”; Inspectors mark: “U.S. / W.D.” Medium-dark salt and pepper blade, ding free. Washer present. Hilt assembly tight and symmetrical. Brass work exhibits medium coppery patina with dark spotting, & minor dings. Original grip & brass wrap original and VG plus. Scabbard exhibits a spotted plum colored patina that is consistent with blade and hilt spotting. Else VG plus. Exudes considerable character. Solid display piece.
