No maker’s mark. Inspector mark “U.S. / A.D.K./1863” [Andrew D. King was the chief inspector of Ames Artillery sabers, 1840-1865] would indicate that this saber was produced by Ames. Brilliant, near-pristine curved blade, measuring 32” in length, 1.25” in width at base. Washer present. Brass hilt assembly tight. Exhibit bright coppery patina with scratching & minor nicks. Fine original leather grips with fine wiring. Inspector initials “A.D.K” appear on pommel cap.
Scabbard exhibits dark plum colored patina, with patch of light pitting between carrying mounts on the inner edge. Four slight dents, else VG. Has solid carrying mounts, throat [which bears the numerals “65”], and drag [which bears inspector initials “J.H.”]. Fine artillery display blade.
