Maker-mark: “Ames Mfg. Co. / Chicopee / Mass.”. Inspector mark: “U.S. / J.H. / 1864” Near brilliant blade measures 32” in length, .875” in width at the bass. Exhibits very slight scratching & two very slight dings. Washer present. Brass hilt tight and symmetrical, exhibiting medium coppery patina, with minor scratching & “JH” inspector marking on knuckle guard. Black scabbard leather bright and solid, with slight weak spot just above the upper drag. Brass throat and drag display medium coppery patina, with one minor dent on the former, and “J.H” inspector marking on the latter. Overall condition VG plus. Fine collectible, good display item.
