Item Code: 721-75

[See p. 36, British Military Swords] Straight bright furrowed blade measuring 32.25” in length, 1” in width at base. Flat upper edge, spear tipped point. Lower third florally etched, with no maker or crown marking. Exhibits traces of condensation spotting, and one light patch of pitting on upper blade. Brass hilt assembly tight & symmetrical, with grip cast in imitation of wire wrapping. Urn shaped pommel, capstan grip. Matching floral leaves on upper knuckle bow & quillon. Bilobate counter-guard hinged on reverse side. Exhibits medium dark coppery patina.

This British pattern sword, minus British symbols, was quite likely made for an American officer. An intriguing piece, and a solid-edged weapon collectible.
