MODEL 1850 FOOT OFFICER’S SWORD SCABBARD

$495.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2022-750

This an original scabbard for a Model 1850 Foot Officer’s Sword. This is the regulation pattern for Civil War infantry lieutenants and captains and other officers serving on foot and is very hard to find on its own. The leather body was subject to damage and breakage in the field, and in the hands of careless descendants for generations afterward: there are probably a good deal more of the swords out there without scabbards than with them.

The leather is solid, with one crease between the drag and middle mount and a few scratches, but has nice color and finish, showing incised border lines and a tight seam along the center of the back. All three brass mounts are in place and match both in design and in a medium tone. The drag shows a few dings, which is common. The upper and middle mounts have rubbed the leather slightly on the top and bottom edges, being able to shift a bit without the sword inside to keep the keep the leather tight around the screws, but this is not uncommon and not unsightly.

These are very tough to find on the loose and would complete a sword nicely.  [sr] [ph:m]
