ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR MODEL 1855 SOCKET BAYONET WITH SCABBARD

$265.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: E2331

This accouterment is an original, Civil War socket bayonet with its leather scabbard in very good condition. Bayonet’s lines are simple and direct with a total length of 21” long while the blade is 17½” long. This M1855 socket bayonet was issued to fit the US Percussion Model 1855 Rifle, and also fit the M1861 and M1863 rifled-muskets. Entire bayonet has been cleaned and the blade surfaces exhibit scattered areas of dark oxidation and pitting. Flat of shank is thinly stamped marked with a “U” while the letter “S” has been worn away. Complete with locking ring. Unmarked leather scabbard body is in very good condition and is constructed of black bridle leather that shows just slight cracking at the mid location. No flaking or crazing but light scuffing at the frog area. The seven-rivet scabbard frog / belt loop is stiff and shows much flaking but no tears, rips or breaks. Brass tip is tightly secured to the scabbard body but that point is flexed and weak. A very good original Civil War socket bayonet together with its strong leather scabbard.
