This Plymouth “Navy” Rifle bayonet has a partially bright blade with a light patina and minor localized pitting typical for the age and intended environments of use for such a piece.  The 22.75” blade is marked “COLLINS & CO. HARTFORD, CONN.” by the manufacturer who produced approximately 10,000 Plymouth Rifles with matching numbered bayonets between 1862 and 1864.

The brass hilt and handguard are in good condition with very little tarnishing and minor wear typical of affixing to its accompanying rifle’s bayonet stud.  The handguard features the characteristic quillon, while the hilt bears the stamped numbers 7779, denoting the serial number of the intended matching rifle. The butt of the hilt is stamped “F.C.W.” for inspector Frank C. Warner.  Some minor oxidation is present on the brass.

The leather scabbard is in good condition with some typical but minor finish cracking along its length.  The stitched seam on the reverse side of the scabbard has separated but the structural integrity and functionality is strong. There is a small crease toward the brass tip but the leather has not separated along the fold. The mounted brass throat and finial are strongly affixed by 8 rivets while the frog attachment is very solid and in excellent condition.  The scabbard is attached to the original frog which shows no signs of cracking, excessive drying, or undue damage.

A rare chance to own a complete, numbered Plymouth bayonet that would fit very nicely into any Civil War collection or complete an original Whitney/Plymouth rifle and bayonet pairing.

Overall length: 27.25”
