This 45-70 bayonet is in wonderful condition. Most of the original bluing is present while the locking ring operates as new. The blade is stamped with a strong “US” and a partial “S” in three lines near the socket.
The metal scabbard is in good condition with typical but very minor light surface oxidation and most of the original blued finish. The leather frog is in great condition with no cracking and tight stitching. The brass large brass belt hook shows minor oxidation but moves properly and is affixed to the frog by a “US” rosette that is free of tarnish and damage.
An excellent example of a Trap Door bayonet that would be a welcome addition to any serious historic militaria collection.
Blade length: 18” from tip to socket
Overall length without scabbard: 21.25”
Length of scabbard: 18.265”
Overall length with scabbard: 22” [cm][ph:L]
