This is an original Model 1855 socket bayonet for .58 caliber Civil War era Springfield rifle muskets. Measures approximately 21” overall.
This specimen features a smooth, clean surface. A light pewter tone overall with just a sprinkling of darker spots. Original, working locking ring and screw. Bold “US” stamp on the flat. One small “ding” on front edge of socket.
A fine example of the M1855 socket bayonet and ready to go on a musket. [jet][ph:L]
