This is a U.S. Model 1816 Socket Bayonet manufactured at Harpers Ferry.

This example of the US M1816 Socket Bayonet is in fine condition. Bayonet is light gray with brown speckling overall. The bayonet is stamped “U / US” on the top flat and “O / 76” at the junction of the socket and elbow. The socket has a 0.82” bore diameter and is approximately 19” in overall length. The blade is nearly 16” long with a 9” long face flute. The blade has what is known as the “prow-tip” that appears ground down as opposed to sharp and pointy. It has a T-shaped mortise and no locking ring.
