U.S. M-1855 SPRINGFIELD SOCKET BAYONET & SCABBARD

$300.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 169-599

This is the Model 1855 socket bayonet for Springfield rifle muskets.  Measures approximately 21” overall.  This specimen features a bright overall surface with a few scattered dark spotted areas. Complete with locking ring and screw.  Worn “US” stamp on blade flat. In good condition.

Original black bridle leather scabbard with leather frog. This appears to be one of the replacement scabbards made to fit either the Springfield or Austrian bayonets. The body is in solid condition with some cracking. The stitched seam is complete and unbroken. Brass scabbard tip was originally attached with two tacks; neither remains. Arched buff leather frog is in worn condition with wear and surface cracking. The frog is the two rivet style and was only sewn to the scabbard. The frog is unmarked.

A fine original set.   [jet] [ph:L]
