This bayonet model can be fitted to a M1842 percussion musket. The face flute and down the entirety of the blade is bright with scattered patches of discoloration. The back has dark patches of discoloration and minor pinpricking with signs of oxidation. ‘U.S’ is stamped on the face flat. There is also dark discoloration on the socket and oxidation on the inside as well. The blade measures 18” and the socket is 2 ¾”. Locking ring works, and moves smooth. It retains the original screw in good condition. Typical of this model bayonet is a ‘zig zag’ mortise, which is also present on this item.
Good addition for any collector looking for earlier accoutrement pieces. [mk] [ph:L]
