Classic early AN IX French Napoleonic briquet or hanger. This outstanding specimen was made ca. 1803 just prior to Naploeon being crowned Emperor. It is engraved on the spine "Manfacture de Klingenthal Coulaux Frere Enterprise". Poncoins or proofs on the fine condition 23 inch (1 1/2 inch wide) blade are of the Consular Period. Solid brass one piece hilt is also inspected. Every Napoleonic Infantryman wore one of these from Morengo to Waterloo. This is not the later more common year XI. Rare. [PE] [ph:L]
