This item started as a full-length Model 1942 bayonet. When the Army adopted the smaller M1 6.00 inches was ground off of this bayonet to conform to the M1 pattern. The drawn bayonet meas. approx. 14.50 inches from point to pommel. The bright blade measures just under 10.00 inches long with a central fuller that runs clear through to the point. Blade is marked at the ricasso on one side with “PAL” in an oval over “US” with a bursting bomb at center over the year “1942.” True edge has several very tiny nicks.
Grip is black Bakelite type material that is in good condition with no cracks. Metal surfaces match the blade.
OD green fiberglass scabbard has a white metal throat stamped with an ordnance bomb insignia with “US” at center. No other markings are visible.
Item does have some built up surface dirt on the ricasso area of the blade and scabbard but this can be cleaned. [ad] [ph:m]
