Item Code: 172-5420

This is an original American Civil War saber bayonet manufactured by the Ames Manufacturing Company of Chicopee, Massachusetts just prior to the Civil War.  Made to fit the infantry length Sharps rifle-musket, records indicate that approximately 2000 of these saber bayonets were produced.

The overall length of this bayonet is 26 ½” while the graceful-looking, slightly curved blade itself is 21 ½” long. Bayonet was primarily intended for issue to the Federal infantryman. The brass ribbed grip is is nice shape with an even dark patina. Locking spring and button are present and work well. A serial number (37007) is strongly stamped on the top flat of the grip.

Blade is dark and the surface has moderate pitting overall. Ricasso has a worn stamp of “AMES MFG. CO. / CHICKOPEE / MASS” on one side and “1860” on the other.    [jet]
