To meet the demands of an expanded army and heavy losses, the French government contracted with Remington in 1916 to produce 200,000 1907/15 Pattern Mannlicher-Berthier rifles with bayonets. The French had earlier decided to keep using the Lebel pattern cruciform bayonet and these were also produced by Remington in the early long form, but without the hooked quillon. About half of the production made it overseas and the other half remained here. As is correct fore those not received by the French government, this one is unmarked and unserialized. The scabbard has the typical deep blue finish of this model. The grip is white metal, showing the slightly beefier profile to the grip characteristic of the Remington production. The blade is clean and bright. The guard shows bright with just a dusting of blue. The release latch shows a thin blue.
All in all, this is a super condition example of this pattern bayonet and scabbard. [sr]
