The Pattern 1907 bayonet with a 17-inch blade was devised to fit the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) and give the soldier a longer reach in close combat. The bayonet saw service on that weapon through both world wars. The blade is smooth metal with good edge and point, grayish brown in color with a blued ricasso bearing British Enfield manufacture and inspection stamps along with a 1907 date. The black leather scabbard is solid, with no bends or breaks. The scabbard steel tip and throat with frog stud are in place and show a light caramel brown. The guard is the simplified version that replaced the original hooked quillon first used on the pattern. The wood grips are very good with just minor handling marks. The grip screws show some surface rust that can be cleaned off. The pommel and guard show a thin faded blue. As is correct, the grips are smooth and made without the grooves cut on either side to distinguish the Pattern 1913. [SR]
