This bayonet was originally made in 1917 and was 20.00 inches long but was cut down for World War Two. It is easily recognizable as a cut down blade by the fact that the central fuller runs through the point. Also the date of manufacture makes it obvious.
The bayonet is marked at the ricasso on one side with “US” over “756080.” Between the two markings is a faint “U. F. H.” for the Union Fork & Hoe company who did the work of shortening the bayonet from its original length. The other ricasso is marked “S.A.” over a bursting bomb ordnance insignia and the year “1917.”
Grip is black Bakelite type material that is in good condition with no cracks.
Green plastic scabbard has white metal throat with ordnance bombe insignia with “US” at center. Scabbard is marked below throat with a white number “70” over what looks to be a maker’s mark. The maker’s mark is unreadable. [ad]
