Designed to fit a 45/70 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle, these you rarely see anymore, probably a totally useless weapon that was supposed to double as an entrenching tool. These were issued in 1873 and were never considered a great success.
Well constructed of 100% steel and developed to serve double-duty as a combat bayonet and entrenching tool, it has a 10 inch long and 3 ½ inches wide blade, with a reinforced spine. Knurled grip section. Blade has some light surface rust. No markings.
