An original M1855 socket bayonet issued to fit the US Percussion Model 1855 Rifle, and also fit the M1861 and M1863 percussion rifled-muskets. Bayonet’s lines are simple and direct with a total length of 21” long and a blade 17½” long that is semi-bright with no edge nicks. Surface exhibits areas of dark oxidation with moderate pitting on the socket flat near the neck and the point edge. Bayonet appears to have been lightly cleaned at one time. Socket retains its locking ring (frozen) and shows scattered light pitting overall. A veteran Civil War M1855 socket bayonet.
