Quantity Available: None

Item Code: E2404

This rifle-musket accoutrement is an original, quadrangular blade socket bayonet in strong but rusted condition. Made for the Austrian M1854 “Lorenz” Rifle Musket, this bayonet features its distinct four-blade characteristic and helical mortise slot in the sockets, was matched to the .54 caliber, muzzle-loading, single-shot percussion rifle-musket. Made in Vienna from 1854 through 1867, the longarm was a very accurate rifle-musket that employed a four-groove rifling scheme that had a right-hand twist.

Used extensively by the Confederates during the war, it was the first Austrian longarm to utilize the nipple ignition system. Shank of this unmarked edged weapon is at a right angle to the socket, setting the blade away from the bore of the muzzle. Bayonet has a four-edge blade that is wider than the height. Bayonet attached to the Austrian Lorenz rifle muzzle at the front sight. Actual quantity of bayonets produced is unknown but this honest specimen is 22” long total, has a 3” long socket with a locking ring. Austrian Lorenz bayonets are difficult to find in the collecting community today.

This bayonet specimen, in very good original condition, would surely compliment the Austrian Lorenz rifle musket and enhance any military edged weapon collection.
