CONFEDERATE "GEORGIA" PIKE

$1,950.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M21468

During the Civil War many different and now forgotten makers manufactured many thousands of pikes in the south. While different variation exist, ones with an iron cross guard and side straps are referred to as "Georgia" pikes, after the state that had thousands of them made for home defense. Offered is an unmarked example of one such pike.

The total length is 99-3/4 inches with 88 inches of it being a wooden pole, 1 1/8 inches in diameter and made from ash. The bottom 4 inches is turned down to 1 inches in diameter, which was probably for some sort of steel cap. The blade is an 11 5/8-inch by 1 5/8-inch double-edged blade. The cross guard is a 3 5/8 inch shaped piece of oval shaped steel, under which is a steel collar from which run two 16 5/8 inch straps with four ground flush rivets. Nice example of a weapon from the Civil War that was truly an obsolete Rev War type weapon.
