Vol. VII—No. 339. 16 pp. [401-416], four columns, with numerous stories, illustrations and cartoons. The front cover features a full page action sketch of a sharpshooter scene—“In the Trenches Before Vicksburg—Lieutenant-Colonel Strong takes a Shot.” [Killing a Rebel sharpshooter who had fired at Strong’s hat, placed as a decoy.] Internal illustrations include three more Vicksburg landscape sketches—“The Approaches to Vicksburg—The Centre Under McPherson,” “Cotton Bridge Over the Black River”, “The Arrival of Two Thousand Vicksburg Prisoners at Fort Delaware.” Also two action sketches from the earlier 2nd Battle of Fredericksburg--[prelude to Chancellorsville]: “Shelling the Rebel Rifle-Pits on the Rappahannock Previous to Sedgwick’s [6th Corps] Crossing,” and the “Effects of Shells on Rebel Rifle-Pits , As Seen After the Crossing.” Also two full page sketches of General Grover and General Augur’s Divisions in action at Port Hudson.

Exhibits light chipping along left margin. Front page has separated from remaining pages; there are a few minor tears along right edge of front page, chipping and minor paper loss along bottom edge of front page. Light spots of soiling/foxing throughout. Else fine Solid issue, superb illustrations. In protective sleeve w/white card backing. [jp/ld] [ph:L]
