Front cover features full page sketch of “Major Halleck in the Field, April 1862.” [Halleck assumed command of Grant’s army in the wake of Shiloh]. Interior illustrations include sketches of Gen. Pope and Commodore Pope and action scenes treating the capture of Mississippi River Island No. 10. Plus dramatic, panoramic centerfold depicting “The Battle of Pittsburg Landing [Shiloh], April 7, 1862—Final and Victorious Charge of the Union Troops Under Major-General Grant”. Plus hilarious rear cover “bowling” cartoon of Commodore Foote v. General Beauregard.

Exhibits mounting dots and light chipping along left cover margin. Diagonal crease at lower right corner of front page. Scattered minor spots of soiling/foxing throughout.
