Front cover features a lead story—“The Final Victory”—accompanied by two action illustrations—“Cavalry Charge At the Battle of Five Forks”, and “General Sheridan At the Battle of Five Forks, April 1, 1865. Interior illustrations feature two full pages covering the collapse and surrender of Petersburg, VA.—[1] “Before Petersburg—Rebel Fort and Line of Works Near Burgess Mill, Captured By the Sixth Corps, April 2, 1865”, [2] “Gallant Action of Colonel Sniper, 185th New York, March 29, 1865”, [3] “The Retreat of the Rebels Across the Appomattox, By the Pocahontas Bridge, April 3, 1865,” [4] [full page] “The Union Army Entering Petersburg, VA.” Plus a huge, dramatic, panoramic centerfold of “The Union Army Entering Richmond, April 3, 1865.”

Exhibits old tape repair along left edge. A few light scattered areas of staining. The last 3 pages have a tear extending inward from the right edge, the longest being approx. 3 ¼” long, and shorter on each subsequent page. Otherwise fine condition w/smooth cover. A remarkable, noteworthy, end-of-war issue. Superb collectible. In protective sleeve, w/white card backing. [jp/ld] [ph:L]
