Standard pre-printed “To Whom it May Concern” document. One page, 8.5” x 11. In light brown wooden frame, w/ card backing & hang-wire. Document Exhibits fold-marks, one minor ink splotch, and light yellowing. Frame displays light wear & minor scratches. Else Good plus.
Records the enlistment of Private Daniel Kreider—8/30/1864—and his date of discharge—6/23/1865, by reason of “Gen. orders, No. 105, A.G.D.”
Lists Pvt. Kreider’s personal characteristics as follows: Residence, Lancaster, PA—age 22—height 5’7.5”—fair complexion, grey eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a farmer.
Battley I was recruited in Lancaster county and entered the U. S. service for a period of six months, being mustered in at Harrisburg, June, 1863. It was stationed at Philadelphia until Nov., 1863; then in West Virginia, until Jan., 1864; and then returned to Harrisburg, where it was mustered out on Jan. 7, 1864. So large a portion of its members reenlisted that with the addition of new recruits, the battery was again mustered in at Harrisburg on Jan. 7 1864, this time for three years. It was ordered to Philadelphia and thence to Washington, where it was posted at Forts Whipple and Worth until the close of the war. It was mustered out at Philadelphia on June 23, 1865. [jp][ph:L]
